Efficient Hierarchical Meshing Strategy for Surface Temperatures Computation Applied to Ship Infrared Signatures Modeling
نویسنده
چکیده
Designing stealth technologies for modern war ships requires methods for signatures reduction (radar, infrared, etc). The first step is to conceive a signature simulation software. In [1], [2], we proposed an infrared (IR) ship signature simulation software (OSMOSIS) that can manage parametric emissivity profiles. OSMOSIS comprizes a smart computation time and memory management. The evaluation of the effectiveness of an IR signature reduction method implies being able to simulate the evolution of the signature with time. This implies a huge computation time. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical meshing strategy leading to an important reduction of the computation time. The time complexity of the algorithm is shown to be O(√N), where N is the number of facets resulting from the mesh of the surface of the ship. A performance analysis of the algorithm is also discussed.

The need of Belgian Navy to model infrared signatures of all their vessels requires to develop a software for computing such signatures. The proposed software (OSMOSIS [1]) can efficiently compute these signatures for a large database of ship geometries. This paper first discusses the recent novel research results included in OSMOSIS in order to make it applicable to more realistic scenario’s a...
متن کاملInfrared ship signature prediction using measured BRDF data and global illumination rendering
Current IR ship signature codes have some limitations in predicting ship IR signatures. They either model general BRDF while ignoring multi-reflections, or compute multi-reflections with simplified BRDF models. We propose a new Monte Carlo ray tracing method incorporating measured BRDF data, which can calculate multi-reflections with general BRDF data. Much works have been done in computer grap...

In this paper we present an optimized view-dependent meshing framework for adaptive and continuous level-of-detail (LOD) rendering in real-time. Multiresolution triangle mesh representations are an important tool for adapting triangle mesh complexity in real-time rendering environments. Ideally for interactive visualization, a triangle mesh is simplified to the maximal tolerated perceptual erro...

In this paper, the physical optics method is used to study the problem of electromagnetic scattering from Haack series nose cone. First, a meshing scheme is introduced which approximates the curvature of the surface by piecewise linear functions in both axial and rotational directions. This results in planar quadrilateral patches and enables efficient determination of the illuminated region and...
متن کاملModeling of High Temperature GaN Quantum Dot Infrared Photodetectors
In this paper, we present calculations for different parameters of quantum dot infrared photodetectors. We considered a structure which includes quantum dots with large conduction-band-offset materials (GaN/AlGaN). Single band effective mass approximation has been applied in order to calculate the electronic structure. Throughout the modeling, we tried to consider the limiting factors which dec...
